One way to make a change to your current habits is to take what’s called a “holiday from alcohol or other drugs”.  This simply means that you decide not to drink, smoke or use at all for a short period of time - like a trial period while your body adjusts to the different levels of alcohol, pot or speed (or other drugs) that are present.

Should you select this option, it would mean taking no alcohol or other drugs for this “holiday period” (a couple of months) and then planning a date when the “holiday” finishes.  After this date you would set down a goal of how much alcohol or other drugs you would like to use - whether it is regularly, socially or occasionally.

If you choose this as a goal, write it down on your Change Plan Worksheet under the section “My main goals for myself, in making a change, are:”

Write down something specific like: “Starting from XXX date, I will take a holiday from alcohol/pot/speed etc. for 2 months.  The ‘holiday’ period will finish on XXX date.  After this date, I will allow myself to start drinking, smoking or using again, but be more in control.  I will allow myself to have a drink/smoke/hit only on social occasions and no more than 2 times per week (for example).  When I do smoke/drink/use I will have no more than 3 drinks (or 3 cones, or 1 hit, for example) and then I will have no more.”

If this option suits you, take some time now to write down your goals for cutting down in the space provided on the Change Plan Worksheet.
