It’s great that you feel you might be ready to make some sort of change to your current drinking, smoking or using habits.

As we mentioned in earlier modules, the decision to make any sort of change is completely up to you.  And, it is you who will decide exactly what sort of change you would like to make to your drinking, smoking or using habits.

If you have already experimented a bit with ways to cut down on your alcohol, cannabis, speed, tobacco, or use of other drugs, then this is a clear sign that you are ready to take some action and make some changes.

Please be aware that your motivation to make these changes will go up and down over the next few weeks as you try different things out. 

Some things will suit you, and some things won’t.  This will be a gradual process of experimenting and trying out different skills and activities - to see what works best for you.  This way, you have the best chance of sticking to your goals and being able to achieve them.

The first step in this process is to work out a plan for change, and get specific on what your goals will be.  You can set goals for your depression and for your alcohol or other drug use at the same time - these goals can be worked on together, as they are closely related.
