the alternative view
(Persons et al., 2001)
As you have become aware over the last few sessions, when we are depressed, we tend to only focus on thoughts and activities or behaviours that back up our depressed view of the world and that fits in with our negative core belief.
This negative bias will still be there even when we are not feeling depressed, ready to bring us undone.
It is important, then, that we learn to manage depression, and to prevent it from coming back. The way we do this is to learn how to once again pay attention to all the other thoughts, activities and behaviours that are outside our negative core belief.
